Dead Giveaways your AI Draft Needs a Human Touch
Ah, AI-generated drafts. They’re efficient, logical, and occasionally… a little too, dare I say, robotic. Here are some hilariously obvious signs your draft needs a human edit, stat - because no matter how good AI gets, there are things it just doesn’t get right.
No punctuation before an emoji; we’re not Savages!
Example: That was great!😁
No, no, no.
Let the emoji breathe.
Humans know to let the vibes flow naturally.
Drop the punctuation. Let that emoji roam free like it’s earned its spot.
2. Ditch the drafts that read like they’re auditioning for the “Not Only - But Also” Hall of Fame
Example: Not only is this solution effective, but it’s also efficient.
Stop it.
Unfortunately, far too many humans write like this; which is where AI gets it from. But we don’t TALK like that. So if we’re writing like that, it’s because we’re compensating for not having a better point.
Skip the filler.
If it’s effective, say it’s effective. Cut the waffling and move on.
3. When Half your Paragraphs Start the Exact Same Way!
You know the ones: First, let’s… Next, let’s… Finally, let’s…
Unless you’re creating some glorious iambic pentameter, don’t do that.
Structure is good, but too much of it makes your writing feel robotic. Human brains wander. We ramble a little. We take a side road, remember a story, loop back to the point - and that’s what makes reading enjoyable.
Loosen up.
Start with a question.
Toss in a tangent.
Sprinkle in lived-experience analogies like, “This strategy works faster than my toddler spotting a cookie from across the room.”
4. Not a Single Personal Opinion in Sight
Your AI-generated draft is informative.
It’s professional.
It’s utterly devoid of personality.
Humans?
We have quirks.
We have chocolate crinkle cookie stories.
If your writing doesn’t hint at what you believe - about cookies or life - people will feel no connection to you.
Show your human hand.
5. Do better than High School Essay-like Conclusions
“In conclusion, we have thoroughly examined…”
Nope.
Just nope.
Beginnings and endings are hard AF.
So much is said about the importance of the first paragraph and virtually nothing about how to stop writing and move readers, who’ve honoured you by staying till the end, to the next step.
We can do better.
AI loves wrapping up with a formula.
Humans? We wrap up with heart.
Share a final thought, a takeaway, a mic-drop line, or a direct call to action.
Ditch the verbose recap.
What have you noticed from using generative AI consistently?
Drop me a note and tell me! (It’s always me who reads and answers your notes!!!)
